Miriam Alves always wanted to be a journalist, except for one brief summer when she was convinced that she wanted to work with dolphins. She did a degree in Media studies and works as a journalist at SIC TV channel, where she is currently the co-ordinator of the “Grande Reportagem” programme.
She is also interested in how scientific knowledge can be made accessible to all. She created the “Admirável Mundo Novo” and “Descobridores” programmes at SIC, through which she has brought the work of scores of scientists – including a number of world-renowned experts in their respective fields – to the attention of the Portuguese public.
Her reports have won over 30 journalism awards, amongst them the the Clube de Jornalistas’ “Gazeta de Televisão” prize, the Monaco International Festival “Ninfa de Ouro” prize, in the documentary category, the National Commission for UNESCO’s Human Rights and Integration prize, the Children’s Rights in the News prize, and AMI’s Journalism Against Indifference prize.
She works surrounded by people she likes and whom she tries to learn from every day.
