Within a single second, the most extraordinary things (as well as the most banal) can happen. Some of these things seem to have no effect on the state of the world, others can make small waves that will, in turn, trigger a whole chain of new events.

Across the five continents, The world in a second follows the passage of time – specifically of that fraction of time represented by the fastest hand on the clock.

Via images that invoke the universe of comic books, we encounter the wide range of worlds, people and situations that make up our planet: each page opens a window onto what’s happening at a given moment – here, there and everywhere.

A picturebook that can be read on different levels, by readers of any and every age: by the littlest ones still getting to grips with notions of Time, and who might discover how this is relative and lived in a whole manner of ways; and by older readers with a visual appetite, who will certainly find in these apparently disperse scenes the thread of a story showing how we are all connected.
