The first tangerine segment
(Portuguese edition)
What does a girl do with a tangerine in her hand?
She smells it, tastes it, tries it…
It’s a one off event (the girl had never tasted
anything like it) and everyone comes to watch.
Will she like it?
This first segment will linger in her memory forever; as she says, it has that first time taste.
The first tangerine segment is a poem (a song) by Sérgio Godinho, and features on the album, “Tinta Permanente”, from 1993.
Madalena Matoso has turned it into images with a rhythmic melody of their own.
Be sure to listen to the song. It’s really worth hearing.

What they say
There are books which should be sold as if they were fruit. Rather: there are books which should be sold with fruit, as is the case for this composition by Sérgio Godinho, written as the lyrics to a song which here pour out not into an auditorium but rather into the excellent illustrations of Madalena Matoso.
António Loja Neves, Atual supplement of Expresso newspaper, October 2010
This joyful book emerges from the encounter between the poetry of words and their equivalent in images, speaking of how we learn about things, the senses and our feelings, in a lesson in living a happy life.(…) Two fruits of a good harvest are thus brought together here.
João Morales, Os Meus Livros magazine, June 2010
