Hey, Big Bang!

It’s not common for Planeta Tangerina texts to have an animal as their protagonist. Much less for their narratives to follow an apparently linear track, with more traditional features from the outset. But soon enough unanswered questions begin to appear. Then, some scattered rhymes, a varying refrain which sets the rhythm and also the typical puns which Isabel Minhós Martins’ writing so brilliantly showcases. And so, the surprise of the book’s opening pages moves over to give room to other surprises.

Minhós’ words find a perfect harmony with the magnificent illustrations by Bernardo Carvalho. We want to gallop through the book in one swift breath. In a register to which we have become accustomed with this illustrator, each page seems like a stunning rainbow which enchants smaller and bigger readers alike.

A book (…) which shows us that things aren’t always easy, inviting us to spot, between the lines, memory’s very own tricks, the importance of silence, the need for personal space, and the transformative power that each of us has inside.
