A day at the beach
The story starts on the book’s inside cover. With only two colours — two plain stripes of colour — we immediately realise where we are.
From here, the plot develops straight away: as the story is born, we read it as if watching the scene from our spot on the sand.
The character moves across the sand and, as we flip the pages, we follow his movements — natural movements for a day at the beach.
But then suddenly, something stirs up in the sea…
A day at the beach is a silent book – an open book inviting many different interpretations. It is aimed at anyone who likes illustration or a good story – anyone who likes reading, story-telling and retelling, regardless of their age or level of literacy.

What they say
A narrative picture book made up wholly and exclusively of images, this work by Bernardo Carvalho presents itself as a curious challenge to one’s reading and interpretative capacity.
